Spain needs 15.000 professional drivers to cover the demand

"The Government has to delete the existent barriers in the Professional Formation, since they dismay to the new generations to turn conductive professional and, besides, has to promote programs of help for paliar this acuciante lacking of vocations in a key sector for our economy, that represents 5% of the GDP and gives direct work to more than 520.000 people)".
These are the main conclusions of the day "The Professional Formation of the Professional Drivers. Attraction of Talent to the Transport", organised yesterday by the Association of the International Transport by Road (ASTIC),the Foundation Corell and AT Academy of the Carrier.

In this webinar have taken part four ministries: Ministry of Transports Mobility and Urban Diary; Ministry of Education and Professional Formation; Home Office (DGT) and Ministry of Defence (Spanish Army)]. In addition to entities and notable companies of the sector, skilled educational centres and educational and conductive students of FP. To this day assisted more than 1.000 people through his different platforms of diffusion.

Spain leads the data of the juvenile unemployment of the EU and the zone euro after registering in January 39,9% of unemployment among the minors of 25 years and, simultaneously, our country needs some 15.000 professional drivers to cover the demand of the sector in the next polish.

A paradox that explains by a multiplicity of factors like the stagnation salarial, the current labour conditions (a lot of hours went of house, special schedules, fault of areas of sure rest and confortables),fault of flexibility by the demanding rule of the sector or the scarce social recognition of the profession, but to the that also adds a complex and costly formative stage to access to the profession.

"The companies that conform our association offer uses of quality in companies with prestige and experience in which develop a professional career like driver of heavy vehicles of long distance, but the profiles that need to cover these places require of a formation that a direct formative curriculum and complete through the FP and the FP dual can offer", explains Ramón Valdivia, general director of ASTIC.

By his part, Miguel Ángel Ochoa, president of the Foundation Corell, puts of self-evident "the imminent need of a plan of modernisation that have a fluent coordination among the ministries of Transport and Education and the DGT to win the resistances that now find our drivers and conductive to access to the profession".

At present they exist three fundamental problems that repress the opportunities of empleabilidad: the desactualización, the fault of appeal for the community of the women and the scarce estimate.

"We insist in an impulse of the equality of gender to attract to the women to a sector where at present only occupy 2%, so much in Spain as in the EU. Also we claim more funds by the Ministry of Transports for the formation of these professionals since the 3,8 million current euros are insufficient in a sector where find us with a conductive population professional ageing and without a relief generacional", underlines Ochoa.

Pending tasks for the ministries involved

To favour the access to the profession to the 18 years, Luis Miguel Soto, CEO of AT Academy of the Carrier, resume in four actions what the different ministries involved would owe to carry:

"Delete the requirement to have previously  the permission to drive to obtain the Certificate of Professionalism (CP); validate the permission CAP without examination to which finalise the CP; create a net capilar of centres that impart FP of Drivers and, finally, facilitate the obtaining of the permission to drive in the field of the FP to the equal that already sucede with the schools and military organisms and with the General Direction of the Police and of the Civil Guard”.

"The companies demand better drivers formed and with competitions that attend to the current challenges of the transport, like the digitalisation, the technological innovation, the efficiency or the sustainability", aims Soto.

"Also we have to take to the students that, after going through the current system of obtaining of Certificates of Professionalism and Half Degrees of FP related with the driver, demand the elimination of the current barriers that oblige them to continue complementing his formation to be able to work to the steering wheel of a truck or bus", adds.

In this sense, Jaime Moreno García-Cano, general director of Terrestrial Transport of the Ministry of Transports, ensured during the day of yesterday that "the formation has to adapt to the new tendencies since the driver develops increasingly multidisciplinary works and also to the new technologies to win in efficiency".

Importance of the road

In Spain, 95% of the terrestrial movement of commodities and 85% of the of people takes place by road, big part of him in buses and coaches, therefore, treats of a fundamental sector for the economic development of our country.

The general director of ASTIC also does upsetting in the strategic importance of these professionals for the vertebración social.

"It suffices to remember how they were still working during the hardest confinements or contemplate how the enormous endeavour of investigation that has made to world-wide level to produce the vaccine against the COVID-19 and also to sanitary level to administer it would remain annulled if they did not exist the professional drivers, responsible to distribute them".
